From Psalm 104
Illustration by Grace Ellen Schiel
You lost a lot in the fall;
your senses impaired by sin;
an alien in the middle of creation;
blind, deaf, dumb, dead. You began
a self-centered pursuit of things.
Lost, you encounter the Christ
who came to save; to make
your senses whole again; to restore
access to creation
access to God
heaven and earth together again.
At worship you recover your senses,
move from acquisition to adoration.
Oriented to God, you are attentively
at play in the fields of the Lord
at prayer in the courts of the Lord.
The best spirituality a robust sensuality.
Watchful and alert to what is there;
a present life, fully human,
imperfect, but alive
in the world of salvation
in the world of creation
you live by mercy; by grace alone.
