Table of Contents for series: The Jesus Way

October 21, 2007 Sermon
Taken from: Matthew 3:13-4:11
Messiah Work, an illustration by Grace Ellen Schiel
Wilderness necessity
clarifies the way of Messiah work
discernments made deliberately
prayerfully; word-of-God attentive.

Tempted to do good in the wrong way
to use Jesus to fulfill needs
          a consumer way
     reducing everything to merchandise
Bread is necessary but not primary

Tempted to bedazzle by miracle
to use Jesus like people use drugs
          a way of diversion
     distraction for gathering fans
Miracles are alluring but not primary

Tempted to compromise for power
to use Jesus to make things work
          an imposed impersonal way
     rule reduced to function
Power is important but not primary

Jesus is the way of salvation
the way God comes to us
the way we come to God
Jesus is necessary; Jesus is primary.
