November 25, 2007 Sunday Sermon
Taken from: 1 Corinthians 15:1-19
Illustration by Grace Ellen Schiel

I walked with him,
listened to his teachings, baffled
by both his ways and his words.
Faith, raised by revelation
is shocked by death. Then
with hope in retreat, almost gone,
resurrection surprise cast
a light back over a life lived;
gave meaning to everything
he had done and said;
illumined paradoxes; mysteries;
clarified who he was. To we
who were confused and mystified
it all began to make sense.
To understand his story
read it backwards;
start with the empty tomb.
The God-breathed stories
are tributaries pouring into
the raging stream of his
death and resurrection.
Every place of dead-endedness
he encountered was an
opportunity for wonder.
Even now look for him to
surprise you with something new
out of the ashes of your life.
