Between two comings
we live at peace; justified,
we walk in the light of the Lord.
In the mud and muck
of present circumstances,
we groan, strain to get
a glimpse of the holy mountain,
the geography of our future,
the way things will be.
To see clarifies what to value
or not to value; creates desire
to do what we have not done.
In present hard times
we worship, passionately
patient as character forms.
As we bear witness
to an unseen presence,
a holy power shapes
and matures us.
Knowing him, our expectation
grows as we remember
it all ends with God.
We wait for Jesus to come
being enlarged in the waiting.
