Hello Christ Church Family
Beginning with this initial entry we’ll be updating you on Christ Church news and events here on the web site. This will be a journal, not only for the Christ Church family to stay up-to-date, but for anyone in the community — or for that matter the world — to get to know us better. I guess we can call it, for want of a better less overused term, the Christ Church Blog.
So let’s get started!
From the Pulpit
This Sunday, Pastor Dan tells us, we’ll be hearing the seventh and final sermon in the series entitled “His, in Life and Death.” The sermon title for this week is “A Seeing Place” and he’ll be preaching from 2 Corinthians 4:7-18. There have been many positive comments about this entire sermon series dealing with death, heaven and related issues. As this series comes to a close, we invite you to listen to any in the series you may have missed by listening online to the streaming audio, downloading the MP3 file, or listening to a sermon CD.
Knowing Him Library Grand Re-Opening
The church library has undergone a complete renovation. You are invited to join us there immediately after worship this Sunday for our “Re-Opening.” All the books, videos, and resource materials have been reorganized to make it easier for you to locate what you need. Bob and Jeanne Wendrock have worked tirelessly to reorganize and update everything in order to make the library more “user friendly,” and we know you will be pleased with what you see.
The library is open for anyone in the Christ Church family to browse through and borrow from, and there is no need to check books out. We just ask that you return all items soon after you are finished with them, and that you not remove reference materials from the library.
Before too long we should have a page on the web site about the library where you will be able to get extra information about what’s available there and maybe some recommendations on books to read, among other things. Stay tuned here for that.
Web Site Re-design
As you should have noticed by now, this web site has also had a makeover. The new design features not only a new look of parchment pages on a dark brown background pattern, but many new features we’ll be talking about in the near future. The software framework behind the pages you see has also been beefed up and should make for a more robust presentation to the online community. Last month we logged about 2,400 visits with around 1,500 different sermon audio requests from both streaming audio direct from the page and downloads.
Don’t forget to set your clocks FORWARD an hour Saturday night (March 13) before you go to sleep so you won’t be late to church! Daylight saving time begins Sunday morning at 2 a.m.
Busy Prayer Time
These past couple of weeks have been a challenging time for our church family. Lots of folks in the hospital for various reasons along with other issues have kept the prayer line busier than normal. We won’t be posting names and specifics about prayer requests directly here on the web site, but we’d ask you to stay posted on things via email and phone as we endeavor to support each other through prayer in difficult times.
Ladies Bible Study Continues
The past couple of Tuesdays have been busy in the Fellowship Hall as around 20 of our Ladies have been meeting for a Beth Moore bible study course entitled “Believing God.” There will be no class next Tuesday (March 16) because of spring break, but classes will begin again March 23 and continue weekly until May 11.
