I go to my place
with some coffee and wait.
In the stillness, I ponder
what it means to be
a man of earth;
a man of God;
a sinner; a saint.
Like the first man, I
bear the stamp of earth; I die.
Like the second man, I
bear the stamp of heaven; I live
reconciled by his death;
saved by his life;
grace abounding over all.

Is this the life
my place in His-story?
 
To live at all is to live local
with boundaries; with intent.
Holy purpose worked out
in ordinary affairs, in
living room
bedroom
kitchen
backyard
in daily work, in play
in clamor, in calm.
 
In this world of necessity
where I live, I am shaped
given work to do
commanded by God
joined in community.
Sensible of conditions
I live in freedom.
 
Taking my place seriously
no life but this!

We awake every morning
into creation wonder;
into a world we did not make.
Born into it, born again
we recognize our Father’s world.
Sunday worship orients us,
opens our senses to
earth and sky
animal and bird
male and female;
prepares us to live attentively,
to get in on all there is,
to walk by the Spirit
in the cadence of
God-created rhythms:
evening and morning
worship and work
spirit and flesh.
Alive in this cosmos
we follow Christ, our Lord
by whom it was created
for whom it all exists,
keeping time to
the music in our souls.
